Volunteer Opportunity

We are looking for volunteers to lead or support training and activity sessions with our clients.

You will be based within a team of staff supporting a group of people with learning disabilities to develop existing and learn new skills for employment and independence. Working in small groups or on a one to one basis, sessions run for a period in the morning and in the afternoon, according to a timetable.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Deliver training activities that all clients can participate in.
  • Prepare all materials to be used in the sessions.
  • Provide support for clients in sessions led by other staff and volunteers.
  • Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of session participants.

We are particularly looking for volunteers with experience in Gardening, Arts & Crafts, Catering or Woodwork, but we welcome opportunities to look at new activities that may be of interest to our clients. Experience of working with disabled people is an advantage but not essential.

Applicants should have good communication skills (not only verbal) that can be used to communicate effectively with a diverse group of participants, with different skills and abilities. You will be responsive to the needs of your clients and passionate about your subject area. You will be patient and willing to try alternative methods to allow each client to achieve. You will have a friendly and approachable manner and you will be well organised.

Our staff and volunteers are at the heart of what we do and joining us as volunteer can be both rewarding and challenging. In exchange for your time and commitment we will provide you with training and you will be fully supported to learn new skills.
